A PIRATE-themed week helped children to count treasure and improve their maths.
Children from Gorse Hill Community Primary School in Tolladine, Worcester, have been enjoying the special maths week as an alternative way of learning.
The school had designed a week’s worth of activities to celebrate the fun side of maths, proving that youngsters can enjoy education.
The pirate-themed lessons covered topics such as coordinates, time, money and shape within a problem- solving context. Thursday also saw the children and staff dress up as pirates, adding to the feeling of fun.
Local businesses also got involved by working with the children and demonstrating how they use maths in the workplace on a daily basis.
Darren Hales, manager of the Oak at Upton Snodsbury, near Worcester, said: “It was great to be able to promote the use of maths in daily life and a real pleasure to work with the children, who were all so enthusiastic and well behaved.”
