THE city’s CCTV system looks set to be saved under a new deal to be struck between the police and councils.
Live monitoring of Worcester's existing camera system was set to end in April, 2010, because of a lack of cash.
But following talks, exlcusively revealed by your Worcester News on Tuesday, Worcester City Council has announced measures to keep monitoring the city's live camera feeds.
The outline agreement would see existing space at Wychavon District Council’s monitoring station in Pershore, used.
This arrangement will be part-funded by the city council and West Mercia Police, through the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.
The city council will write in £50,000 into its coming year’s budget to fund the new arrangement, while the police will put in about £40,000.
The plans were announced at a briefing in The Guildhall, today, attended by representatives from both councils and the police.
