THE historic Three Choirs Festival is trying to attract young classical singers to be part of a new venture.

Organisers of the annual festival, which takes place in Worcester once every three years, have seen through television shows such as Last Choir Standing that more and more young people are willing to join choirs.

They are now looking for people, aged 16 to 25, to form the first ever Three Choirs Festival Singers.

The group will perform at Tewkesbury Abbey in August next year as part of the Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester.

Three Choirs is Europe’s oldest choral festival. The prestigious event, which attracts people from all over the world, rotates between the cathedral cities of Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester.

Auditions will take place in Gloucester on Friday, January 2 and Sunday, January 4, with rehearsals at the John Masefield School in Ledbury from April.
