COUNCILLORS have appointed a new managing director to run Worcester City Council's paid service.
Duncan Sharkey was unanimously backed by councillors to take on the role, following a vote at The Guildhall.
Mr Sharkey, who was not present at the extraordinary council meeting, is currently chief executive of West Lindsey District Council in Lincolnshire.
He was selected from a short-list of 13 candidates during an interview and selection process which took place throughout November.
Andy Roberts, city mayor, called the unanimous vote a "healthy decision".
Simon Geraghty, city council leader, said he believed Mr Sharkey had what it took to take the city council forward.
