TROOPS fighting in Afghanistan will have a happier Christmas thanks to a kind-hearted group of women and generous donations from across Worcestershire.
Women from Crowle Ladies, a group of public-spirited women from the village, have collected more than 80 shoeboxes full of gifts which will make life easier for Grenadier Guards serving overseas. The boxes, which contain gifts like notebooks, thermal hats, soap, shampoo, toiletries and other essentials and luxuries, were sent out yesterday.
Caroline Robjohns of Crowle, who helped organise the event, said: “Everyone has been concerned about the plight of the troops in Afghanistan. We felt that as they were out there, they needed all the support they could get. The response has been amazing. Our response stems from the treatment of the troops and making sure they have a good Christmas. Some of them have no relatives.”
The project is supported by the Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion, Asda, Co-op, Tesco and CM Ogle the chemist, all based in Pershore, the Probus Club of Worcester East, Concorde Stationery and Robin Elt Shoes.
