A FINAL call to Worcestershire manufacturers wanting to get involved in a pioneering new qualification has been made.
The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design (MPD) was launched in schools and colleges across England in September. It is being taught in partnership with employers to give young people the chance to learn about manufacturing and develop the skills and knowledge they will need when they enter the workplace.
The project team which developed the qualification is now looking for more companies, from all manufacturing sub-sectors, to sign up before Wednesday, November 25, and help to introduce the Diploma in MPD in more areas from September 2010.
Derek Jones, vocational programmes manager for food and drink sector skills council Improve, is leading the development of the Diploma in MPD.
He said: “This is a great opportunity for businesses in Worcestershire to shape the workforce of tomorrow. Manufacturing companies have long spoken of the problems they face attracting young people into the sector and about finding skilled recruits who can add something to their business.”
Employers interested in getting involved are being invited to join with schools and colleges in their local area to submit an application to create a consortium.
The application process for new consortia is open now and closes on Wednesday, November 25. For further information about forming or joining consortia, visit dcsf. gov.uk/14-19/G4consorti aguidance.
Employers can also contact their local Education Business Partnership (nebpn.org) for information about working with schools and colleges in their area.
