OUR November meeting was our annual meeting during which we heard various committee reports from the president, retiring secretary, treasurer and the events secretary. We managed to do a wide variety of visits and walks. We were also entertained by a great many interesting people during the year.

One of our members, Pat, had entered a monologue in a competition and had good feedback saying the piece was varied and interesting. We are still having discussions about a bursary for Denman but have not made a decision yet.

We then moved on to adopt the new committee members for next year assisted by Anne Meredith, an adviser. We listened to Anne telling us about various decisions being considered by the board of trustees and the two that caused the most uproar were the proposal to remove the word Institute from our name and we would simply be known as the WI. Also, the logo might be changed from a tree to something more up-to-date.

We within Callow End were all appalled at these two proposals.

We felt they should have at least have asked the opinion of us, the members. We will not let this matter rest till we have all made our voices heard by the board.

We then all enjoyed a competition to judge the best honey cake and our president Sylvia won this.
