THE rather odd sight of a young swan ambling the roads greeted rush hour motorists today.
The downy grey feathered female was spotted in Brittania Square, and The Tything at around 8am taking a look around.
Seemingly unconcerned by the traffic, the bird was eventually picked up by a passing driver who transported it safely to their garden in nearby Waterworks Road, Barbourne.
Sandy Lee, who voluntarily runs the city’s Bishops Wood Swan Rescue with husband Nick, said she thought the swan might have been on its first flight when it decided to touch down near the road side.
“It’s not injured. Judging from its size I would say it’s a young female,” she said.
“A passing driver picked it up and took it to his garden and that’s where we picked it up from.
“We’ll watch it for 48 hours to make sure it’s ok then release it back onto the river Severn.”
