TWO cyclists have completed an ocean-to-ocean challenge to raise funds for a Worcester children’s hospice.
The intrepid pair cycled from Manhattan Beach in New York to Venice Beach in Los Angeles to raise vital funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice. Nic Robinson, aged 22, from Droitwich, and Ben Humphries, from Kidderminster, tackled the 3,500-mile route by cycling between 120 and 220 miles a day finally completing the challenge in 41 days.
“En route, people very kindly offered all sorts of help, including letting us camp in their gardens overnight and even using their bathrooms! Some gave us a great home-cooked breakfasts. This really helped us on our way,” said Mr Robinson. The pair cycled without a support vehicle so had to carry everything they needed on the backs of the bikes.
Their challenge has raised more than £3,300 to date, with more sponsorship yet to be collected.
“We’re really keen to get other young people involved with fund-raising for Acorns and doing challenges like this with their friends,” said Mr Humphries. “It’s a great way to raise funds and have a great experience at the same time. We thoroughly enjoyed our challenge and know that the money we’ve raised is helping a very special local cause. We’re both feeling very proud of ourselves!”
