A TRIBUTE to legendary comic Eric Morecambe has taken pride of place in a Worcester museum.
Victor Heyfron’s bronze bust of “the tall one with glasses” is on display at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum as part of the annual Worcester Society of Artists exhibition.
Mr Heyfron, a long-standing member of the society, completed the sculpture in 1963 when Morecambe was at the height of his fame as one half of the award-winning double act Morecambe and Wise.
“It’s coming up to 25 years since Eric’s death,” said Mr Heyfron, who has also done sculptures of abstract artist Henry Moore and English philosopher Bertrand Russell.
“It seems like a good time to have him on show.”
Morecambe died, aged 58, in May 1984 after suffering a heart attack at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
In January a show celebrating his life, Morecambe – The Man What Brought us Sunshine, will be staged at Worcester’s Swan Theatre.
The museum and art gallery is open Tuesday to Saturdays from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Entry is free.
