THE first of the seasonal gales and heavy rain will be hitting Worcestershire this weekend.

Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said there was some very unsettled weather today before it becomes slightly calmer tomorrow.

Mr Damari said there would be squally thundery showers on Saturday morning following on from heavy rains overnight, moving into the afternoon, with wind speeds reaching between 40-60mph across the county.

“People who are out and about should be warmed about the high winds, especially if they driving high vehicles or towing caravans. Also it is a good idea to keep away from wooded areas as bows will be coming down from tree’s,” he said.

In the afternoon, the storms will fade to breezes, with temperatures reaching 15C/59F during the day, and 9C/49F during the night.

Sunday will see more showers and winds from the south-east.

Next week the weather will still be disturbed, with very windy weather and mild temperatures for the month.

Mr Damari added: “With all this rain falling and more rain due to fall next week, we have to watch the river situation as the ground will be saturated.”

The Environment Agency said they were expecting there would be some flood warnings being issued around the country following the bad weather but there is no imminent risk of rivers flooding locally.
