WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has submitted a bid to build a new multi-million pound Stourport Primary School, nursery and children’s centre.
The school would be built on the site of the former Lickhill Middle School in Lickhill Road and would cost about £5.2 million. It would include playing fields and outdoor spaces and the planned opening date has been set at September, 2011.
Originally, the county council had planned to close Lickhill Primary School as part of the move but parents and governors at the school successfully opposed the closure, with the schools adjudicator ruling against the plans.
The application to Wyre Forest District Council planning bosses includes drawings, site plans, an arboricultural report, school travel plan, ecological survey and environmental assessment and the results of a ground investigation. A county council spokesman said: “The new Stourport Primary School will be built on the site of the old Lickhill Middle School.
“Pupils on the roll of the school when the new building is finished will simply move across from the current building. It will be able to admit up to 45 pupils per year and overall numbers will be dependant on the number on roll at Stourport Primary at switch-over.
“The cost of the building is estimated to be £5.2 million, which has been accounted for within the current capital programme. This new school building will include improved facilities to meet the current and future needs of pupils, including playing fields and outdoor spaces.
“We are planning for the new school building to be ready for occupation in September, 2011.”
A consultation on the plans will run until Tuesday, November 24.
