AN elderly woman was airlifted to hospital following a collision on the A38 at Martin Hussingtree today.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the A38 near the Swan Inn at 10.50am after the collision between a grey Seat car and a Silver VW panel van.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A car and a van had collided.
“A rear seat passenger in the car, a woman in her seventies, had leg fractures and a suspected fractured pelvis.
“She required treatment at a trauma centre, the nearest was at Selly Oak, but weather conditions (low cloud) meant the helicopter was not able to travel in that direction.
“The next nearest trauma centre is at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, in Coventry.
“The woman was flown there for further assessment and treatment.
“None of the occupants of the van were injured, although they were shaken.”
The road was reopened at 12.50pm.
