MOULD on the walls, windows and floors of a young mum’s home is affecting her children’s health she claims.
Stacey Corns, who lives in a flat owned by Elgar Housing in Malvern, believes not enough is being done by the housing association to help rid her home of the mould.
The 19-year-old, who has two children, Brandon, aged two, and 10-week-old Olly, has lived in the property in Elgar Avenue for the past six months.
But she says she has to clean the windows, floors and walls on a daily basis to get rid of the green and black mould.
Miss Corns, a single mother, has also had to throw away her children’s toys, clothes and a pushchair because of the mould.
“I just can’t do this anymore. I am so stressed and depressed because of this whole situation,” she said.
“It’s in my kitchen, the babies’ bedroom, the hallway and the living room. Their health has suffered, too. They have had chest infections and coughs that they can’t shake off because of it.
“I am so worried about their health. I have to wash everything. I have had to cut my net curtains up to get the mould out. I have to mop the floors constantly. It’s a daily thing for me and I just can’t get rid of the smell.
“It is disgusting and as a single parent of two children, I am finding it very difficult.
“I don’t think Elgar are doing enough to help me though.”
Sue Heelas, head of housing at Elgar, said she was aware of the problem and representatives had visited Miss Corns to offer her advice.
Ms Heelas said there had been a water leak in the flat above Miss Corns’, which could have caused the damp problems, but this had since been fixed.
“We have also had some issues with condensation in the property and we have given her some advice on how to ventilate her property properly, such as leaving the vents on the windows open and not leaving wet washing on the radiators,” she said.
“We are also going to get a ventilation fan installed in the home within the next few days that we hope will ease the problem.”
