A HUSBAND-to-be celebrating his stag weekend in Worcester shouted racial abuse at a police officer, a court heard.

Myles Lohoff shouted at the officer in an unprovoked attack as he walked past a police van parked in Angel Place.

As well as swearing, Lohoff had stuck his middle finger up, before shouting abuse at the Asian officer.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting, told Worcester Magistrates Court Lohoff ran away, but the police gave chase and later caught him thanks to a member of the door staff from Lloyds Bar in Broad Street, where he was arrested after a struggle.

In police interviews Lohoff said he was drunk and could not remember why he had become abusive.

The 22-year-old, of Anchor Drive, Stourport, admitted racially aggravated harassment and resisting arrest on Saturday, September 12.

Andrew Wakeman, in mitigation, said Lohoff was on his stag night and had drunk a lot of alcohol bought for him by friends.

He denied his client was racist and said his behaviour had been totally out of character.

“He had no reason to approach the police,” said Mr Wakeman.

“It was an extremely foolish thing for Mr Lohoff to do.”

District judge Bruce Morgan said: “Abusing someone because of the colour of their skin is not only repulsive but simply cannot be tolerated.”

Lohoff was fined £150 and ordered to pay £100 compensation to the police officer.

For resisting arrested he was fined £25, told to pay £15 costs and a victim’s surcharge of £15.
