seven blood donors from Worcestershire have been honoured at an awards ceremony for rolling up their sleeves to help save lives.
The awards at the Chateau Impney Hotel, Droitwich, were presented by Warwickshire woman Heather Brooke, who needed three litres of blood after an emergency operation.
Afer her near-death experience, her family and friends have signed up to become donors. Each blood donation could save the lives of up to three people.
Diane Freeman, of Don Road, Tolladine, Worcester; Roger Greenhill, of Standbrook Road, Tenbury Wells; Susan Harris, of Church Lane, Broadwas; Noel Knight, of Perryfield House, Whitbourne; and Valerie Yeomans, of Stafford Avenue, Warndon Villages, Worcester, all received a crystal plate for giving 75 donations while Brian Boswell was awarded a crystal decanter for giving 100 times. Chartered accountant Mr Boswell, aged 67 said; “I felt it was a small thing I could do to help others who are in need. The knowledge that blood donors are constantly needed keeps me motivated to carry on giving.”
Anyone aged over 17, weighing more than 50kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health can donate blood. For details of sessions in your area, call 0300 123 23 23 or visit blood.co.uk.
