A YOUNG woman from Worcester has been chosen to star as a language ambassador.
Alice Phillpott, aged 24, was picked as an ambassador for a national campaign to try to get more children interested in learning another language.
Miss Phillpott, of The Hill Avenue, Battenhall, is now an ambassador for the Try Life in Another Language campaign, which aims to show young people how much they can achieve by learning another language.
She was given the opportunity to study abroad for a semester during her time at Bath Spa University and spent five months in Aixen- Provence in the south of France. After university, she then chose to return to France to work as a language assistant.
Her language skills helped her get a diploma in teaching French as a foreign language. She worked for a further year abroad before returning to England.
She is now looking for opportunities to showcase her French in the UK.
Miss Phillpott said: “Studying in France was a fantastic experience – as a result of speaking French I’ve met people from all over the world.
“Languages give you an opportunity to discover a new way of life and I’ve found speaking French to be incredibly enriching.
“I also believe that learning a second language teaches you a lot about your own language and culture as you learn to look at your own country with totally new eyes.”
Miss Phillpott joins 19 other ambassadors from across the country who will be sharing their passion for languages with other young people to encourage them to select a language when deciding on their GCSE options.
Young people looking for more information should log on to trylifeinanother language.com or they can call Miss Phillpott on 07793 035764.
