WORCESTER City footballers are warming up for this year’s Leukaemia CARE Santathon.

The team is in training for the event, to be held in Worcester and Evesham on Sunday, December 6, at 11am.

The Worcester event starts and finishes at the City ground in St George’s Lane, where the footballers are getting ready to put in a fast pace over the 5km course.

City spokesman Tony Partridge said: “It’s brilliant to get the Santathon back at the club again.

“It’s a great event for the whole community and to see hundreds of Santas setting off raising money for Leukaemia CARE is really inspiring.”

This is the seventh year the Santathon has been held in Worcester to help raise funds for the charity.

It is also being held at Evesham High School on the same day, giving more people the chance to do some festive fund-raising.

Nick Martin, Leukaemia CARE spokesman, said: “It’s great to get so much support from sports clubs.

“The players from Worcester City will all receive their Santa outfits, have a great laugh and collect sponsorship money for us, which is so important.

“Not only do they have great fun but the funds they raise allow the charity to provide its much-needed work.

“Although we do have lots of sports clubs taking part, people of all ages and abilities can register.

“It doesn’t matter if you run, walk or stroll the course, as long as you get into the festive spirit and enjoy taking part. There’s also a prize for the most sponsorship raised.”

Last year, participants collected thousands of pounds, a figure which goes a long way towards helping it provide vital support, particularly through its unique and dedicated 24-hour freephone CARE Line.

Registration and sponsorship forms are available from Leukaemia CARE, from Worcester City Football Club or you can download them from xmasfunrun.co.uk.
