THE mother of two Worcester soldiers is hoping a Help for Heroes party will raise money for wounded troops.

Thousands of people are expected to attend a fancy dress party at Oceana nightclub in Birmingham tomorrow which has been organised by Dawn Turner.

Both of Ms Turner’s sons are serving with the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and by January will both be on the frontline in Afghanistan.

Private Robert Homans, aged 19, has been in Afghanistan since June, and his elder brother Scott, 21, will fly out in the new year. The brothers, former pupils of Nunnery Wood High School and Worcester Army Cadets, have seen first-hand how injured soldiers need support from people back home, which is why Ms Turner has pledged to raise money for Help for Heroes. She said: “I spoke to my son’s captain out in Afghanistan and gave him the good news that we’re having this party and that all the returning soldiers and their partners are invited.

“There was a huge cheer in the background. Simple things like this just boosts the soldiers’ morale and that is what Help for Heroes is all about.”

The fund-raiser will feature a guest appearance by actor John Partridge, who plays Christian in EastEnders, and Ms Turner had help promoting the event from former Hollyoaks actor Will Mellor. Tickets, priced £3, are available from 0845 4025390 and on the door. All proceeds will go to Help for Heroes.
