IN 2004 cannabis was classed as a class C drug rather than the more serious class B. But in 2008 Home Secretary Jacqui Smith changed it back.
This was done, it is said, despite official Government advisers recommending otherwise.
Today Professor David Nutt, of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, says it the drug does not cause major health issues.
He says it is no worse than alcohol and tobacco, and also claims that ecstacy is no more dangerous than riding a horse.
