A DRUNK football fan was escorted out of a Worcester City match by police after confronting an away team supporter who had sold him drugs before kick-off, a court was told.

Shaun Fenson had been drinking in the Postal Order pub in Foregate Street, Worcester, before the game with AFC Telford on Monday, October 12.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Fenson drank five pints of cider before heading to the St George’s Lane ground at 7pm.

The court was told Fenson got into a conversation with an AFC Telford fan outside the ground before buying cannabis from him for £40.

When inside the ground Fenson went to the toilet and checked the package and realised he had not received £40 worth of the Class B drug.

The 44-year-old, of Brookthorpe Close, Warndon, Worcester, then made his way to where the away fans were situated and confronted the man who had sold him the cannabis.

Stewards had to be called to deal with the dispute and Fenson was asked to leave the ground.

After he refused to leave, stewards requested assistance from two patrolling police officers who eventually had to handcuff Fenson and take him outside. Mr Dodson said Fenson was “abusive and uncooperative” and verbally assaulted the two officers as they arrested him and took him to Worcester police station.

After searching him, officers found the cannabis in his trouser pocket and were then told by the defendant he had more cannabis at his home.

Police executed a warrant and found more of the drug in a tobacco pouch on Fenson’s bedroom shelf. The total value of both amounts of cannabis was £18.

Paul Stanley, defending, said: “A Telford fan provided him with cannabis. When he was in the ground he realised it was not the quantity or quality it should have been.”

Fenson, an unemployeded father-of-one, admitted being drunk in a sports ground and possessing cannabis. He was fined £65, ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
