ENTHUSIASTIC youngsters picked up 15 bags of litter from a Worcester neighbourhood.
Twenty children from schools in Tolladine helped to collect the rubbish from the roads surrounding the Tolly Centre, Rowan Avenue, yesterday.
The children were helped by two community safety officers and volunteers from Worcester Community Hou-sing, which organised the pick. The event was one of a series of litter picks organised as part of the Rubbish? Sort it! campaign, run by the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust in Worcester and Malvern over the last month.
Other areas to have been cleared since the end of September include the King George V playing fields, Fort Royal and the Univ-ersity of Worcester’s St John’s campus – all in Worcester – and Picker-sleigh Community Centre and Priory Lodge Hall, both in Malvern.
Schools, Scouts, members of Greenpeace, students and police officers have joined volunteers during the campaign, which has been running annually for nine years.
This year’s project has been ongoing since the end of September and finishes on Friday.
Duckworth Worcestershire Trust’s education and information officer Laura Chapman said: “This litter pick has gone really well and there seems to be a general increase in interest in the whole campaign.
“We are looking forward to clearing up the Green Centre in Dines Green, which is the final pick planned for this year. But we are still encouraging people to pick up litter after the campaign ends.”
The final litter pick is planned for between 10am and 2pm on Friday at the Gresham Road centre.
