ROGUE traders conned £800 out of a Malvern pensioner by claiming to work for a construction company.
Two men went to the man’s home in Somers Road on Tuesday, October 20, and said they needed to replace his drain covers and carry out essential works on a dangerous electric supply. They charged him £800 on the spot.
Three days later a third man visited the man and handed him a threatening letter that said further work needed to be carried out.
PC Nicola Nevin, investigating for West Mercia Police, said: “It appears that this man’s cast iron drain cover has been replaced with a cheap, ill fitting one and he has also lost £800.
“Neither the men or the work was legitimate. Luckily we were contacted after the third male went back. We are now investigating.
“I would like to hear from anyone who may have any information on this incident or may have seen men in the area wearing high visibility jackets at the times of the offences.
“I would also like to warn people of this scam and remind them to always ask for formal identification and call and check by calling the company people are from if there are any concerns.”
