THE British Red Cross has celebrated a successful freshers week of fashion in Worcester.

Fashion gurus and stylists customised and styled old clothes for students at the University of Worcester in aid of the British Red Cross.

Louise Watkins, senior Red Cross fund-raiser for Worcestershire, said: “The Recycle and Style event was a huge success and raised a wonderful £113.26.

“We also had some students interested in volunteering opportunities with the Red Cross and everyone involved really enjoyed themselves so a great achievement all round.

“We are hoping some of them will co-ordinate their own fashion events in the future, providing a fun and creative way for students to get involved in their local community.”

The funds raised from Recycle and Style will help the Red Cross respond to emergencies across the globe from fires and floods in the UK to earthquakes and conflict around the world.

There are currently 270 volunteers trained in emergency response in Hereford, Shropshire and Worcester.

The money raised from Recycle and Style could be used to train two more volunteers in the skills they need to deal with an emergency.
