WORLD famous physicist Stephen Hawking’s daughter Lucy brought science to life for pupils from across Wyre Forest.

Ms Hawking, aged 39, was promoting George’s Cosmic Treasure Hunt, a children’s space adventure book she co-wrote with her father.

To promote its release, she visited Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre, talking to pupils and giving a presentation on space travel.

Year seven pupils at the school were joined by youngsters from Burlish Park Primary, Stourport Primary, Wilden All Saints CE Primary and Hartlebury CE Primary.

Julie Benkwitz, librarian at Stourport High, said the event was the best so far at the school, following a visit from The Gadget Show’s Jason Bradbury last month.

She said: “Lucy talks in a way that brings the complex world of space and science to life in an accessible way for children.

“She presented a superb interactive event, including interviews with astronauts at NASA, video and audio clips of her father talking, tips on how to survive in space and she finished with a question and answer session.

“The audio/visual nature of her talk really engaged the children and she had such a nice manner, chatting individually with every young person as she signed their books.”

To prepare for the event, pupils had entered a competition to create a piece of space-themed art.

Ms Hawking presented the prizes and talked to the winners about their models.

Her book, the second in a series, features a fictional children’s story combined with facts about the solar system.
