A CITY hospice is urging people to watch out for bogus collectors picking up charity sacks from outside people’s homes.
Acorns Children’s Hospice has uniformed collectors with branded vans to collect sacks.
Thefts of Acorns’ bright yellow sacks from the doors of supporters, who fill the bags with items for sale in Acorns’ shops, have been happening across Birmingham. The charity is also warning people to look out for bogus charity sacks being put through doors.
Janice McPherson, head of retail, said: “We have been shocked that some of our recent collections have been sabotaged by bogus collectors. We ask the public to be vigilant if they see collectors removing filled charity bags from people’s doors.” Valid charities using bags to support their shops carry the following things on envelopes and bags:
- The Association of Charity Shops logo.
- . A registered charity number clearly worded and printed, not simply a registered number.
- A landline telephone number, which links straight to the registered charity.
