THE Mayor of Worcester has received a volunteer of the year award for the work he does with the city’s leg club.

Councillor Andy Roberts said he was surprised to have got the award at the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation’s annual meeting.

He said: “I was listening to what they were reading and thought ‘this chap sounds really good’ and then it was me!

“I was very touched. But the stars of the show are the district nurses and the people who use the service because they come out and run things themselves.”

Worcester’s leg club, which meets every Monday at the Tolly Community Centre in Tolladine, is used by about 200 people with leg ulcers and other chronic leg problems.

The club helps them to meet on a regular basis and take part in sociable activities which is believed to help people’s recovery.
