POSTAL workers in Worcester formed a picket line outside the Westbury Street delivery office yesterday in full support of the strike action.
The strike by postmen and women, who claim they are being overworked by Royal Mail bosses, followed Thursday’s action by sorting office staff at the Worcester mail centre and delivery office in Wainwright Road, Warndon.
Royal Mail said 30 million letters across the country had been delayed – the equivalent of about 40 per cent of an average daily postbag, and branded the strikes “unnecessary and irresponsible”.
The Communication Workers’ Union, which organised the two strikes, claimed it was receiving “strong support” from the public and other unions.
Postmen in Worcester were expected to return to work today.
