A SINGLES night will help people find romance while raising money for three charities, including the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

The black-tie event called Banquet & Boogie will take place at the New Pavilion Suite of Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Friday, November 27, between 7.30pm and midnight.

The event has been organised to raise money for three Worcester charities: Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, Acorns Children’s Hospice and St Richard’s Hospice.

Sue Patey, of Hallow Road, Worcester, one of the organisers, said: “When you’re younger you can go out into town but, when you’re older, it’s much more difficult to meet people. We try and support as many local charities as we can. My mother and father died of cancer.

“My mother was due to go into St Richard’s before she died. Men and women should not worry about coming on their own. There will be a lot of people in the same position. We are a friendly lot and we will look after you. This could be the last event you go to on your own.”

Entertainment includes a champagne reception, an ice-breaking quiz, a three-course meal, a salsa taster lesson from John James Salsa, blackjack and roulette and a live band called The Fabulous Nuts.

The fund-raiser is aimed at people between the ages of 30 and 50 and organisers hope at least 50 men and 50 women will attend but there is capacity for about 120 people.

Organisers say the event could raise up to £300 for each charity with the potential to raise more with a casino which is running at the same event.

Your Worcester News has adopted the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign and will continue to appeal to readers to donate cash and buy the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign calendar until the £2.5 million has been raised to create the unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

The unit will provide a one-stop shop for breast patients, cutting waiting times and providing a less clinical environment for them.

Tickets cost £40 each.
