A WORCESTERSHIRE band could find fame if they make it through a high-profile television contest.
Groucutt and Haynes, an upbeat acoustic duo based in Worcester and Stourbridge, West Midlands, will be featured on Channel 4’s T4 show tomorrow.
They are taking part in the Hollyoaks Music Show, a competition which will profile nine unsigned acts from around the country.
The winner will then perform in an episode of the popular teenage TV soap.
Founder member Rob Grou-cutt is happy to have made it this far.
He said: “They had more than 500 entries and we’ve made the final nine.
“There are 10 shows in the series and a different band is showcased each week. There is a public vote on the final show and the winner will play in Hollyoaks, which is pretty good exposure.”
Since forming the band in 2008 Mr Groucutt and fellow guitarist Dan Haynes have supported Midge Ure, Ritchie Havens and Elkie Brooks.
They have also performed live at Worcester Cathedral.
Mr Groucutt said: “We’d known each other from the local scene for a while.
“About a year ago we decided to work together, basically to get away from the solo singer songwriter stereotype and make a band that was maybe a bit more sellable.
“It’s been an incredible year for us.”
Mr Groucutt’s father Kelly – who died in February this year – played bass for the Electric Light Orchestra.
On Sunday the band will launch its debut album, Another Good Reason, with a gig at the Marr’s Bar in Pierpoint Street, Worcester.
Their sound has been described as “upbeat acoustic funk” with meaningful lyrics and a wide range of instruments, from saxophone and flute to African drums.
The Hollyoaks Music Show will be broadcast tomorrow at 11am.
Tickets to the Marr’s Bar gig cost £5 on the door.
