A WORCESTERSHIRE mother has spoken of her anguish at not knowing what caused the road accident that killed her son while he was on holiday in Thailand a year ago.
Despite endless letters and phone calls to the Foreign Office and British Embassy in Thailand, Anita Kwiatek and her family have little information on the circumstances surrounding her son Anton’s death.
The 32-year-old died in hospital from serious head injuries in hospital on October 6, last year – three days after his motorcycle was involved in a head-on collision with a new, unregistered car in Pattaya.
He had been in the country for just two days when the crash happened.
Anton’s family only discovered his death after brother Arron contacted his hotel as he had failed to call home.
“He’d never been in that area before and he was supposed to move on the day after the accident,” said Mrs Kwiatek. “The British Embassy said they were in the process of informing us when we contacted them, but it was us who told them about Anton’s death.”
Thai authorities claimed the delay was because the collision happened on a weekend and Anton had no identification on him at the time, although his details could have been traced through the motorcycle lease.
“I feel as though something more could have been done,” said Mrs Kwiatek.
