A SEVENTY-SIX-year-old adventurer is getting ready to explore India on motorbike.

Simon Gandolfi, a writer from Malvern, is embarking on the five-month trip next month and plans to spend his 77th birthday in Goa.

Between 2006 and 2008 Mr Gandolfi rode a Honda 125 from Mexico to the southern tip of South America.

The ups and downs of the epic 40,000- mile journey were recorded in the book Old Man On A Bike and his travels have also featured on the BBC Radio 4 travel programme Excess Baggage.

Mr Gandolfi, who spends most days in between adventures exercising his “creaking bones and joints” at the Malvern Spa gym, has been described as an inspiration to all septuagenarians.

He said: “It’s what I do. I love to travel and meet new people.

“I love discovering. It’s been about 40 years since I was last in India and I want to see not only what has changed there but how I have changed.

“The last time I went I was young and immensely ignorant.

“Hopefully, I am more open and keen to listen these days.”
