FUNDRAISERS from a Pershore school and a brave youngster from Ledbury have missed out on this year’s Good Citizen Award.
Twelve young people from Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire, had been nominated for the award which went to Ryan Allen, aged 18, Rory McGhie, 19, from Redditch. The pair were jointly nominated by St Augustine’s Catholic High School for being active participants in school musical events, which have helped them raise money for good causes.
The Good Citizen of the Year award is presented annually by West Mercia Police to recognise young people aged 18 and under who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.
Twins Michelle and Lauren Clarke, both aged 18, had been nominated by Pershore High School after visiting Zambia last year as part of a Global Schools Partnership, helping raise more than £8,000 to bring nine Zambian students back to Pershore in June.
Daniel Hart, aged 18, also nominated by Pershore High School, is a member of St John Ambulance Cadets, has achieved the Level 1 British Sign Language Award and helps regularly at a crèche at Pershore Baptist Church. Jemma Hill, aged 14, of Ledbury was nominated by neighbours after trying to save the life of an elderly relative.
