FORMER Worcester MP Lord Peter Walker is in hospital being treated for suspected stomach cancer.
The 79-year-old was admitted to a hospital in London last week his son and prospective parliamentary candidate for the city, Robin Walker, confirmed.
“It is a difficult time for all of the family,” he said.
Conservative Lord Walker was awarded an MBE in 1960 for public and political service.
He was then voted in as the Faithful City’s MP in March 1961, replacing George Ward to become the youngest member in the House of Commons. He was 29-years-old.
Lord Walker went on to serve as Worcester’s MP until 1992 - in that time he was both a backbencher and also held a number of ministerial roles in the cabinet - before taking his place in the House of Lords.
He was made a freeman of the city in 2002.
