OLD hospital beds and NHS medical equipment are being shipped halfway around the world to help a region devastated by earthquake.
Worcester city councillor Allah Ditta and Rotarian John Bennett were among those helping to load more than 40 disused hospital beds and other equipment into a shipping container this week. The container will be sent to the southern border of Pakistan’s Kashmir region.
The region was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2005. It killed up to 75,000 people and damaged buildings, including hospitals and schools.
Although the old equipment, including crutches and bed and toilet hoists, had been collected, Coun Ditta, Worcester South Rotary Club and Worcester Pakistan Partnership had to find £3,000 to pay to transport the container.
