WITH darker nights and winter celebrations approaching, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has issued timely advice to anyone who is about to buy, sell or use candles.
Station manager Richard Jordan of Worcester Fire Station said: “Statistics show that there have been a number of fire calls, found to have been caused by the incorrect use of candles.”
Mr Jordan said commercial premises could be prosecuted if they failed to ensure the safety of their employees and customers.
Safety tips include keeping candles away from draughts and anything that can easily catch fire, always use a glass or metal holder designed for the size of candle and do not put candles under shelves.
