BROMYARD pensioners will benefit from thousands of pounds of support thanks to a Lottery grant.
The Big Lottery fund has awarded £130,000 to Age Concern Bromyard and District.
The money will train volunteers to support housebound pensioners.
Elspeth McPherson, chief officer at the charity, said: “As a small charity working across 90 square miles of rural north east Herefordshire the award will allow us to continue and significantly develop a critical programme which provides specialist home visiting and information and advice services for older adults who are vulnerable and disabled.
“This includes adults who are carers and those who are terminally ill.
“Most live in considerable social exclusion without regular face to face contact.”
Elderly residents in Bewdley will also benefit from a £40,000 grant which will enable them to take part in activities at the Pound Green and Button Oak Community Hall.
The money will be used to create a new parking and picnic area, refurbish the hall and provide activities such as yoga and line dancing.
