WORCESTER Arts Workshop has revealed a packed autumn programme, months after it came close to shutting down.

Ten months ago the community arts centre in Sansome Street was struggling to survive after it lost £52,000 of annual funding. But staff were determined to keep the doors open and have just launched their latest programme of events.

On Saturday, October 10 at 7.30pm virtuoso guitarist Monika Týmlová will perform in a concert organised by the Worcester Classical Guitar Society.

The Czech Republic born musician, who has won several competitions for young guitarists, is described by critics as elegiac and sublime.

On Friday, October 16 the workshop will host the city’s fifth annual International Arts Quiz, followed by an evening of live music on Saturday, October 17 courtesy of the Llama Lounge.

Local performers set to play include Becky Rose, Scarlet Carmina, Mudball, Absolute Ataxia, and DJ Ed Steelefox.

Entry is free, but donations will go to the Maggs Day Centre in Worcester.

On Friday, October 23 Hassan Bergamon will perform exotic music from Sudan and on Tuesday, October 27 Melting Pot Theatre will stage Shelagh Stephenson comedy drama The Memory of Water.
