FAMILIES are being asked to save their spare change for five weeks and use the money to help disadvantaged children.

Operation Christmas child sends thousands of shoeboxes filled with gifts to children living in poverty overseas.

Area co-ordinator Bob James said: “The kindness of people here in giving gifts has been a beacon of light in past years – this year we are confident it will shine even brighter in spite of the recession.”

Simple shoebox gifts include crayons, colouring book, pens, pencils and a sharpener, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a soft toy and a ball.

The charity will be accepting shoeboxes until Wednesday, November 18, and a £2.50 fee is requested to help cover costs.
