THE mood in the camp is a positive one at the moment following back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
It’s nice to get victories under your belt and it’s not very often we have won two on the trot.
Whatever happens, we are a confident side, always looking to succeed in games, but it helps when you do win them.
I don’t need to worry about motivating the lads for training or games because they are flying at the moment and enjoying their football.
There were times, like at Weymouth and at home to Thurrock, when they needed geeing up, but that’s not the case now.
Beating Dover has also enhanced our belief as a team. They are one of the favourites to win the league but we soaked up a lot of pressure and kept the ball a bit better than we have done.
We were not overun and that’s going to breed belief.
We face AFC Telford in the FA Cup on Saturday and, with what’s happening off the field at the club, whatever money we can get in is important.
It’s a big game for us — I’m sure the board would like us to get a replay to get more money in, but we are going there to try and do the job in one go.
If we get through it, and the next round as well, we could be drawing Leeds United away. Someone has to, so why not us? That’s what we have got to aspire to.
However, we are going to be without Matt Birley again because he is cup-tied. I thought he was excellent on Saturday. His work-rate and quality on the ball was great and I will expect the same from whoever replaces him.
He’s going to be frustrated at not being involved in a FA Cup game and hopefully this won’t be our last one.
He’s missing out on the media exposure the competition brings but he’s keeping himself fit and has brought a lot to the club.
It was also great to see the biggest crowd of the season at the weekend and the backing we had was fantastic.
The fans came to see a top-of-the-league side play a team put together on a shoestring budget and apparently on its knees, but we had more than our fair share of chances.
It was a great result and hopefully we can get the supporters back again.
Apart from Dover hitting the bar from a set-play and having a shot from 25 yards, I can’t remember Ben Hinchliffe having much more to do.
Ben is our number one keeper at the moment and has not done anything wrong. He lives a long way away in Preston but he’s enjoying it here and long may that continue.
Jake Meredith has still got to prove his fitness and the only way he’s going to do that is by training and getting involved in the reserves.
Midfielder Josh Emery has gone back to Cheltenham. He’s getting close to their squad, which is great for him but not for us. But it gives someone else a chance.
