IT is important that we don’t get too carried away after the first week of the season.
These are still early days and you can’t read too much into any team’s results after the first week.
There are a lot of good sides in Blue Square South and the usual suspects will be up there in contention.
Chelmsford, like last year, are a strong side and I expect them to be challenging come the end of the campaign, as will Newport County.
Bath, Hampton and Richmond and Eastleigh are also good teams and have made useful additions to their squads.
I don’t know too much about two of the promoted sides in Staines and Dover, except that Dover do have a very good manager in Andy Hessenthaler.
Some of these teams lost on the opening day of the season, but you can’t judge them already.
But they all have the resources to go out and bring in the top players and they will be expected to put in performances week in, week out.
While these sides have brought in players who are at the higher echelons of this division, there is no point being jealous of them.
These teams either have benefactors or have earned their money through good cup runs.
I have known what my budget was for quite some time and I’m happy with the players that I have brought in.
I’m still looking at getting one more player on loan, but there isn’t a lot of money left in the budget, so it will be a case of trying to call in the odd favour or two.
Throughout the season there will probably be a few changes to our squad and that will be the case for every team in this league.
Last year we all know that we struggled for goals and I hope, by bringing in the players that I have, we will have addressed that issue.
Martin Butler, Rob Elvins, Marco Adaggio, Matt Dinsmore and Aaron Moses-Garvey are all players capable of scoring goals.
With the money that we have to spend on players we had to decide which areas needed strengthening the most.
We have brought in two keepers in Richard Mace and Jake Meredith who I’m very happy with and the defence is another area to have been improved.
Unfortunately, the midfield is not as strong as I would have liked, but we still have players who are more than useful.
Jordan Fitzpatrick and Gary Walker are players who are going to need encouragement over the coming weeks.
