DRUMMING workshops and performances will ensure the National Year of Reading celebrations reach an exciting conclusion this weekend.
Drumlove will be at Worcester Library in Foregate Street between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday to see that the year-long event goes out with a bang.
The event will also host the Big Picture Party at which lucky winners of a countywide drawing competition will receive their prizes. Families were ask-ed to draw a picture from their favourite book for the month-long extravaganza initiated by the Booktrust, the Campaign for Drawing and the Camp-aign for Learning.
Prizes have already been handed out to winners in each of Worcestershire’s libraries, and Worcester-shire County Council’s chief executive Trish Haines has judged the winning entries for the top awards.
County council vice-chairman John Cairns will present the three winners with their prizes, which include tickets to the Severn Valley Railway and Cadbury World, together with a host of art materials.
All of the competition entries will be on display at County Hall next week in a special exhibition.
Sue Hargest, Early Years library co-ordinator for Worcestershire County Council, said: “We’ve had so many wonderful entries for the competition and it has been great to see families working together on pictures from their fav-ourite books. Trish Haines really enjoyed looking at the pictures from the county’s libraries and we are really excited about holding the exhibition at County Hall.
“I would like to encourage families to come along to Saturday’s event to make sure the National Year of Reading goes out with bang. The workshops and performances are a wonderful way of making sure that happens.”
