WOULDN’T it be nice to wake up on Christmas morning having beaten Bognor Regis Town at home — our last match before the festive season.

For some reason our home form hasn’t been great and on paper we all know that we should be beating a team like Bognor.

But football isn’t like that.

Maybe the pressure is too great when we play at the Lane, but it shouldn’t be because the fans on the whole have been great.

Obviously we would like to be going in front early and building on that when we play at home but if, like last Saturday, we have to scrap for three points then so be it.

What was pleasing last week was to see Craig Wilding score again. Craig is a player who can be brilliant all match and then all of sudden their is a small section of the crowd on his back because he has made one little mistake.

I know what it is like to be booed by your own fans — I suffered it when I was player at Bristol City.

That really affected my confidence and even though I got a move to Southampton I was in the reserves for a while because of what happened.

But that doesn’t seem to affect Craig, he is a lot stronger mentally than I was at his age.

I have said before that if I was to circulate his name tomorrow there would be clubs from our league and above that would be banging the door down to sign him.

But I’m not going to be doing that.

If Craig came to me and said he wanted to go I would understand — but I hope he doesn’t.

As we are without a game this Saturday, I’m trying hard to find us somewhere to train as Evesham United are playing at the Lane.

We were in training last night and are back in again tomorrow but whatever happens we will be together on Saturday.

Of course, it would have been nice to be in the FA Trophy, but we don’t have a divine right to be in the first round and Wimbledon beat us on the day.

If we can’t find somewhere for a training session on Saturday then I’m looking at us having a bonding day.

What we will do I don’t know just yet as we are restricted by finances.

We could go bowling or go-karting but when you have 20-25 people to cater for it does start to add up.

The players have got a cash pool which is collected throughout the campaign, but we are loathed to use it now because that is for the end of the season.

What this break does is allow the players to shake off any minor niggles they have been carrying.

We can then take on the busy schedule over Christmas and the new year period with confidence.
