THE talent of a local craftsman has been brought to life in a colourful book by a Pershore author who was captivated by the beauty of his work.
The craftsman Albert Edward Lemmon is the subject of a book by retired headteacher Roy Albutt of Great Calcfroft, Pershore.
Mr Albutt worked for three years on A E Lemmon, Artist and Craftsman, published last week, which contains colour photographs of his best work such as stained glass windows, altar crosses and painted panels and banners.
A E Lemmon (1889-1963) was a Bromsgrove artist-craftsman born in Ladywood, Birmingham, who trained in the Arts and Crafts style at the Birmingham School of Art.
The author discusses his life and work and that of his son Peter and the many commissions to be found in churches across the West Midlands, including Worcestershire and much further afield, in New Zealand. Local churches with his work include St Michael and All Angels Church, Little Witley, and St Peter’s Church, Bengeworth, Evesham.
The book includes many photographs of Lemmon’s best work, all taken by the author himself.
