FOOTBALLERS of all ages and abilities in Worcestershire took part in an ambitious attempt to break the record of the world’s biggest synchronised match at the weekend.
With similar events being staged across the county and beyond, about 100 players took part in the World’s Biggest Game on Nunnery Wood High School’s playing fields on Saturday.
One of those taking part was Mike Knott, of Malvern, who is limbless and helps coach Worcestershire Disability Football Club. He said: “It’s good fun, that’s what it’s all about. We have just come here to have some fun and it gives people with disabilities the chance to go out and do something that able-bodied people do every Saturday.”
Teams used the occasion to raise funds for local community sports projects and charities. Worcester-based organiser Andrew Barnett said 1,075 people played overall meaning the previous record set in America was broken.
“It’s hard enough trying to unite a husband and wife let alone more than a thousand people so it’s amazing,” he said.
After all of the scores had been added up the red team scored 233 goals and the blue team 213.
