DOZENS of shoeboxes filled with gifts for Worcester’s homeless population have been collected by a city church.

This year St Barnabas Church’s annual scheme aims to provide boxes for every homeless person at the city’s Maggs Day Centre and St Paul’s Hostel.

Other recipients include women and children at the ASHA Women’s Centre.

Organiser Mary James said: “It is good that people can make a difference by giving Christmas cheer to those who have very little.”

To take part, all you need to do is cover a shoebox in wrapping paper and fill it with items such as toiletries, gloves, hats, torches with batteries, pens, paper and sweets.

They should include a Christmas card and a note on the outside indicating whether it should be given to a man or a woman.

They will be blessed in a service at the church in Rainbow Hill, Worcester, on Saturday, December 20, and given out on Christmas Day. Boxes can be left at St Barnabas Church or call 01905 455214 for details.
