THE third Acorns Triple Run raised a record £50,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice and other charities, after more than 1,300 competitors took part in the event at the Three Counties Showground.
Chris Price, chairman of the organising committee, said: “This has been the best year yet for the event and runners are now recognising the triple run as an established race.
“The whole community got behind the run – we had help from 250 volunteers. Major employers such as QinetiQ have given £5,000 sponsorship a year for three years, the Three Counties Agricultural Society has provided the showground and its services free of charge and Ringways provided hundreds of barriers for free.”
Malvern mum Julie Vlachos, whose sons Aliki, aged six, and Alexandros, eight, have a rare brain disease and are cared for by Acorns, said: “We can’t have normal babysitters as we need special nursing care for the boys, so it is great to have a breather. We had no respite until Acorns helped us.
Registration is already open online for next year’s event.
