A JEWELLERY artist from Malvern has been commissioned to create a number of pieces by a world-famous rock star.

Courtney Love, who is the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, contacted Emily Gray through her website to order the jewellery.

Mrs Gray, who is self-taught, has so far sold eight items of her wirework and gemstone jewellery to the star over the past few months, and has even received letters of thanks for the work.

She said: “I’m ecstatic that such an incredible rock icon has discovered my work and will no doubt be wearing it for others to see. It’s given my creations an uber-cool edge I could have only dreamed of.”

So far, Ms Love, who has described Mrs Gray as “extremely talented”, has bought four pairs of earrings and four necklaces, including a pair of the artist’s signature earrings called the Cassis Grande, set with a purple amethyst and smokey quartz.

Mrs Gray set up her business from her Belmont Road home in 2003, where she lives with musician husband David and their two-year-old daughter Roseanna.

Her jewellery is advertised on an American website called Etsy, which is designed for self-representing artists to sell their items.

Mrs Gray not only sources the raw materials for the jewellery, but designs and creates it herself.

The 35-year-old originally studied law and the history of art, before working as an investment banker in London. She then became a clinical aromatherapist before coming up with the idea for the jewellery.
