A MAN who repeatedly stole from friends has been given a chance to turn his life around.

Dylan Morgan took cash from two friends and his aunt’s benefit money to fund his heroin addiction.

After admitting the offences Morgan was given a suspended prison sentence and made the subject of a community order.

The first offence happened on Tuesday, June 17, when he stole a purse containing £40 from his friend’s handbag while they were enjoying a drink at a pub. On Thursday, July 31, Morgan stole a keg of Carlsberg from Thresher’s in Evesham worth £13.99.

Then on Tuesday, August 5, the 26-year-old went to his aunt’s house and stole her purse with £200 cash. The final offence was on Wednesday, September 17, when Morgan asked his friend for 50p so he could get some food.

The man gave him £20, asked him to buy a pint, bring back the change and he would then give him some money. Instead, Morgan took the £20 and his wallet with a further £20 in and ran off.

Morgan, of Bewdley Street, Evesham, pleaded guilty to three thefts and one shoplifting charge at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mark Sheward, defending, said Morgan had an entrenched heroin addiction but during a recent spell in jail had gone through a detox programme.

“All of his offending history is committed to fund the drug habit he has had,” Mr Sheward said. “He has the resolve to remain drug free in the future.”

Morgan was given a six- month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and made the subject of a 12-month supervision requirement and a 12-month drug rehabilitation requirement. He was also ordered to pay £295.99 compensation and £60 court costs.
