A YOUNG sailor from Worcestershire will be representing Great Britain in the EuroMed Malta Championship sailing competition.
Will Lockett, aged 12, is a pupil at Bishop Perowne CE College and is currently ranked 98th in the country of all sailors under the age of 15.
The competition will take place in Malta in mid-December.
“I got in to sailing about four years ago when a friend asked me if I wanted to try it,” he said.
“Now I am a member of Barnt Green Sailing Club and I have my own boat.”
Will, who lives in Droitwich, sails in the Optimist class, which is the largest junior class in the world.
He is now training with the senior Great Britain squad.
“I love the adrenalin you get from sailing,” he said.
“It would be great to be in the Olympics one day.”
The EuroMed Malta Championship is organized by the Malta Young Sailors Club under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation.
Will’s younger brother Freddie, aged 10, is now following in his footsteps by also taking part in the sport.
